You hustle. You provide. You protect. Day in and day out, you show up because that’s what good dads do. But Dad, You Need Rest Too. But here’s the hard truth—too many dads are running on empty. And somewhere along the way, we’ve bought the lie that slowing down is weakness.
It’s not.
Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline. Dad, You Need Rest Too. Without it, you risk leading your family from a place of depletion, not strength. And if you’re constantly running on fumes, you’re not just wearing yourself out. You’re leading your family from a place of depletion, not strength.
Busy Isn’t Holy
In our culture, busyness has become a badge of honor. “How’s life?” we ask. “Busy,” we answer—with pride, not concern. But scripture paints a different picture—one that starts with this truth: Dad, You Need Rest Too.
“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for He gives to His beloved sleep.” – Psalm 127:2
Even Jesus—Son of God, Savior of the world—took time to rest. He slipped away to pray. He napped in the boat during a storm. He modeled the rhythm of work and rest, not just for His sake but for ours.
So why do we think we can outwork exhaustion? When you never slow down, you rob yourself of the renewal God offers—and you set a dangerous example for your kids. They’re watching. And if they never see you rest, they’ll learn to chase performance over peace.
Real Strength Rests
We think rest is passive. It’s not. Rest takes faith. It takes intention. It means trusting that the world will keep turning even if you sit still. And that’s leadership your family needs to see.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Rest isn’t always a day off—it’s a lifestyle of presence. It’s choosing connection over distraction, stillness over striving. It’s putting your phone down, stepping into silence, and letting God fill the places you’ve been trying to fix on your own.
And here’s the truth: your rest teaches your family how to rest. If you want your kids to grow up knowing how to find peace in God, they have to see you do it first.
Challenge: Rest On Purpose
This week, schedule one hour of true rest. No phone. No chores. No distractions. Just quiet. Let God meet you there. Let your family witness it. Show them that rest is not something we earn—it’s something we’re invited into.
Prayer
God, I’m tired. I’ve been carrying more than I was built to hold. Teach me to rest the way Jesus did—not out of weakness, but out of wisdom. Help me slow down without guilt. Help me lead my family not just with effort, but with peace. Give me the courage to trust that You’re working, even when I’m not. Amen.
