how to be a good dad

How do you raise children?

How do you even know if you’re doing it right? Wish there were some cheat-sheet that we could peer at every now and then; just something to let us know we’re on the right path?

While it’s not a how-to article, the Bible gives us instructions on how to be a father and man that leads his children well in Christian living. It’s time to engage with our children and make the role of “dad” cool again. Dad jokes have made a comeback, so you can too.

You have responsibilities that cannot be ignored or passed off; they’re uniquely fit for your role as a dad. You’re a role model for your children. They’ll mimic much of your behavior and attitude. The question is: if they do that, would you like that? Are you setting the right example for them to follow?

Raising Them Right

Proverbs 22:6 — “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

If you spend time in the word, talk about your walk with Jesus, your prayer life and encourage them to seek God’s will for their life, they will listen. If you have a temper, treat others poorly and do not communicate well, they will listen. You have to choose to set the right example for your children. These are your duties as a father. We’re called to accept these duties and fulfill them faithfully.
